Hey everyone and Happy Holidays! I am writing this post to announce what the rest of 2023 will look like for Dad of Boy. I am currently finishing up my last review of Super Mario Bros Wonder and then I will post my list of favorite games for 2023. After that, I will be taking the rest of the year off from video games (and blogging about them). One reason for the break is that I want to focus on family and the holidays without distractions. For me and my family and many others who share our faith, this is a time of year to focus on the spirit of Christmas celebrate our Savior.
Another reason I want to take time off is that, after some reflection, I have noticed myself being drawn into a consumerist mindset. I often get caught up in the FOMO and get distracted from the important things about being a father and husband. Even though video games are a fun and good hobby, I want to use this time as an intentional break and make sure my priorities are in the right place. And one of the best ways for us to raise our kids to have good character is for us to model the things we want them to do. Our kids learn tons from watching us so I want to be intentionally modeling healthy boundaries with video games myself.
As for my return in January, I am planning on mostly playing retro games and finishing my backlog before pursuing more new games. These are the games I intend on reviewing early in the new year - let me know if you would like to see me review something specific in addition to these:

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (through the new Metal Gear Solid Master Collection, Vol. 1)
