Gaming Term Glossary

  • PvE - Player Versus Environment, usually cooperative multiplayer game mode

  • Indie - Game developed by a company independent from the big gaming corporations (Sony, Nintendo, etc)

  • Isometric - Fixed camera angle

  • Overworld - The area of the game where you are not exploring a specific dungeon, a world map.

  • Buffs - Positive improvements to a characters stats

  • Debuffs - Negative changes to a characters stats

  • Rogue-Lite - Genre of games that utilize runs through generated levels and include some form of permanent progression

  • Rogue-Like - Genre of games that utilize runs through generated levels and don’t include some form of permanent progression

  • DLC - Downloadable Content

  • UI - User Interface

  • Metroidvania - Games inspired by Metroid and Castlevania that emphasize exploration and backtracking to previously unlocked areas
